Hello! My name is Ofek Gago, and I am a junior pre-med student with a strong passion for healthcare and community service. I bring diverse experience from lifeguarding and swim instruction to leadership roles, complemented by clinical exposure through shadowing pediatricians, anesthesiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and nurses at Memorial Hospital West, Baptist Health Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, and Grady Memorial Hospital. Additionally, I have volunteered in Mexico, providing essential healthcare to underserved families. I am eager to apply these experiences as I advance toward medical school and pursue my goal of becoming a compassionate and skilled physician.A core passion of mine is supporting the next generation of students. Having navigated the complexities of the college application process without prior guidance, I now tutor ACT and SAT students to help them overcome similar challenges.    I had the opportunity to shadow Dr. Mark Spencer, an internal medicine physician in the hematology department at Grady Memorial Hospital, both online and in person, as part of my HealthPREP experience. We followed his care of 14 patients, discussing their medical histories, reasons for hospitalization, and the diagnostic tests ordered. I gained valuable insight into inpatient care, especially related to sickle cell disease and dementia. We also practiced taking patient histories and learned how to conduct them professionally in a hospital setting.
