ABOUT OBI CHUKWU
Who am I:I am very passionate about helping people become the best version of themselves. I work tirelessly to invest in people. My philosophy is that people, not programs, allow organizations to strive. My area of specialty is the field of STEM. I am energized when I see opportunities and can present them to young people (regardless of ethnic origin) in rural regions of the US where access to these opportunities is limited. In addition, I am also very passionate about mentoring educators in helping them teach the next generation of adults. What I currently do:I have been a high school science teacher for 29 years, meaning, I have taught every high school science class except Physics. I am currently a high school Chemistry teacher (20+ years of experience), but I juggle many hats. I am a teacher mentor, testing coordinator, unofficial assistant principal, school improvement team chair, student mentor, Science Olympiad coach, and Assistant Pastor. Are there enough hours in a day for all these roles? The short answer is no, but this goes back to my passion for investing in people. At the center of it all is that I just want to help people. I believe in the good in people, and I see them for the possibilities of their potential. More than those words, I put action behind them and develop concrete steps to help them fulfill that potential. My Success:I have taught over students and mentored hundreds of adults as an educator and an Assitant Pastor. The greatest compliment that students and adults have shared about me, is that I changed their lives and inspired them. My greatest success in my professional career has been with students and teachers who achieved their goals when they gave me the space to work with them in their lives. Whether it be with teachers achieving National Board certification or that amazing lesson plan. Or it is with students understanding the content of Chemistry and using the skills learned in my class to be amazing students in future courses. Outside of work:I am a husband, dad, and good friend. Family is important to me and I try to invest time and be present for them. I love reading comics (DC over Marvel). I am a Superman fan. I believe the S stands for hope. I am a Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and Star Trek fan. I love reading a good book. My favorite series is The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. The last thing about me is that I love to travel. I have lived in Nigeria and Japan. I\'ve been to Colombia, and Canada and visited 14 states.
