About Nzinga Suluki-Bey
I’ve always believed education and policy are about people and power—who has it, who doesn’t, and how we can shift that balance to build stronger communities. I earned my B.A. in Community & Justice Studies from Guilford College, where I immersed myself in community frameworks and “power to the people” politics. My senior thesis projects focused on grassroots organizing and strengthening nonprofits to better serve their communities—work that taught me change is possible when people come together with vision and strategy. That belief has guided my path. I’ve been a Congressional Fellow on Capitol Hill, a Teach For America Houston Corps member, and an Urban Leaders Fellow with the DC State Board of Education, where I developed policy recommendations to close gaps for homeless youth. Alongside policy work, I’ve built connections with organizers, nonprofits, and advocates through Leadership for Educational Equity conferences, Teach For America, and CAIR, always centering community voices in the work. Now, I’m pursuing my Master’s in Higher Education Administration at Northeastern University, deepening my understanding of how systems shape access and opportunity. I am a board member with Philadelphia’s Alumni for Americorps and on my Masjid’s Education Committee in Philadelphia. I’m continuing to learn that change happens as a collective and through collective storytelling.
