WORK HISTORY
Corrections Education Associate @Interagency Academy
Seattle, WA, US
As a CEA at Interagency Academy - South East, an alternative public high school in Columbia City, Seattle, my role is to support students and families to engage in education and further develop skills that will serve them in high school and beyond. I collaborate with parents, teachers, probation officers, family support workers, case workers and other significant people in the students\' lives in order to identify and eliminate barriers as well as support students both in and outside of school. Additionally I teach REACH, a class that focuses on empowering students to understand their brains, recognize the impact of trauma, and learn strategies to build resilience. I also teach an Advisory class to 9th grade students, that is focused on developing non-cognitive skills and preparing students for life. As our students continue to face a plethora of significant challenges in their lives, my role is to build relationships in order to identify the individual needs of each student and to empower and enable them to pursue a positive future. I also facilitate behavioral, academic and attendance interventions in order to support students as needed. Utilizing a non punitive approach, we aim to hold students to high standards and provide opportunities for meaningful reflection and course correction. Trained in Restorative Practices by the International Institute for Restorative Practices
