About Naomi Whitaker
Hi! My name is Naomi Whitaker and I am a PhD student in the Family Science Department at the University of Maryland. My program of research is focused on the mental health and identity development of Black youth and young adults through the application of mixed methods approaches (i.e. qualitative, quantitative, applied methods). I am interested in the multiple levels of influence such as families, communities, schools, and broader social factors and how they interact and uniquely shape the pathways to these outcomes. As a former collegiate student athlete, I also have a special emphasis on these outcomes for Black student athletes at the high school and collegiate level. It is my hope engage youth and young adults directly in the research process through the application of community based and youth participatory research grounded in Afrocentric principles and values. Hopefully my work not only paves the way for the policies and interventions, but also inspires a generation of youth interested in pursuing research.Let\'s connect to discuss more!
