ABOUT NAWANG SHERPA

I am a curious and enthusiastic microbiology and biotechnology graduate with a strong interest in immunology, pharmaceuticals, infectious diseases, zoology, and marine biology. Growing up in Nepal, surrounded by mountains and diverse natural landscapes, I developed a deep appreciation for nature and its complexity. This perspective continues to shape my scientific curiosity and inspires my approach to understanding biological systems. I identify as a genderqueer learner and researcher, and I value inclusivity, diversity, and perspective in both science and collaboration.With a strong foundation in bioinformatics, molecular biology and microbiology, I have hands-on laboratory experience in techniques such as DNA sequencing, gel electrophoresis, spectroscopy, microbial culturing, biochemical testing, microbial identification, chromatography, antimicrobial susceptibility testing and various bioinformatic tools. I am also proficient in experimental design, sample preparation, microbial assays, data analysis, aseptic techniques, and scientific documentation. In addition, I have developed a strong interest in extremophilic microorganisms and actinobacteria, particularly in the context of natural product discovery and antimicrobial research.Beyond the laboratory, I have actively engaged in content writing and educational support, where I create clear, accurate, and engaging study materials, educational articles, and exam preparation notes. I also bring experience in content development that simplifies complex scientific concepts for diverse audiences. Alongside academics, I have built strong leadership and communication skills through roles in corporate relations and business development. I have contributed as a Corporate Relations and Business Development member for the SXC Mini Marathon and as a Partnership Representative for Survaahini and Elevate, where I worked on sponsorship outreach, collaborations, and event coordination.Over nearly two years with AIESEC Nepal, I was involved in multiple national and local initiatives focused on strategic partnerships, youth engagement, event management, and team leadership. I also served as a Partnership Representative for TEDx Maitighar and Hult Prize at St. Xavier’s College, where I engaged with sponsors, partners, and collaborators to secure financial and in-kind support for large-scale youth-driven events.
