ABOUT NOWSHIN MEHZABIN CHOWDHURY
In my role as a Community Development Officer at the Government of Alberta, I collaborate with non-profit and voluntary sector leaders, as well as government partners, to identify leverage points within the non-profit and social purpose ecosystems. My goal is to seize opportunities that catalyze positive, sector-wide change. With expertise in facilitation, social innovation, public engagement, non-profit governance, strategic planning, and applied best practices, I design and deliver customized projects that respond to the evolving needs of both the non-profit sector and government. As a part of my role, I frequently engage with government executives, community leaders, and elected officials.I am also honored to be the Founder and Executive Director of a non-profit organization, Equity Connect Alliance, through which I work in the fields of equality, religious freedom, minority rights, policy, accessibility, citizenship rights, international human rights law, and workplace equity. I hold a Master of Global Affairs from the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, with a specialization in Human Rights and Global Justice. With an undergraduate degree in Finance & Accounting, I began my career in banking at HSBC before transitioning to the Urban Development Programme at BRAC Bangladesh. My journey later took me to the UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) at its Geneva headquarters. I later served as a Policy & Research Manager at the Canadian Urban Institute and recently supported the Diversity Institute’s consulting team on multiple EDI and research projects. I am a proud community volunteer and activist. I have been recognized for my leadership and impact as a Young Leader at Women Deliver, where I was selected for my potential to drive progress on a wide range of issues affecting girls and women. I also serve as the National Vice President of JCI Canada, Director at Net Impact Edmonton, Research Lead at the Youth Policy Forum, and Associate Fellow at the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS). I am passionate about promoting equity and inclusion, elevating voices, and fostering sustainable change through collaborative partnerships and innovative programs.
