Supporting and Coaching Pathways Advising Counselors who: Supporting high school students in navigating career & college pathways that meet their interests, goals, and needs including targeted, proactive support for student subpopulations who face additional barriers in navigating career and college pathways. Ensuring students develop and implement a personalized postsecondary plan and assists students in identifying, assessing, and applying to postsecondary institutions, opportunity programs, work-based learning opportunities, fin aid, and scholarships according to these plans. Enlisting specialists to supplement support for students as needed (ESL teachers, special education teachers, fin aid prof).Organizing workshops for students’ family members on college navigation, career options, financial aid. Supporting and organizing higher education and career engagement opportunities, college tours, admissions rep visits, fairs and similar events for students and families. Building and engaging professional networks relevant to career and college pathways; stays up-to-date on industry best practices to support advising. Participating in required professional learning and training sequence provided by the College and Career Planning team.In addition to coaching schools to meet our North Star: Every NYC public school student is prepared and on a path to a rewarding career aligned with their passion and purpose and offering long-term economic security and a choice-filled life.

Ms. Norma Feriz-Gordon, MSEd (Queens Native) is a NYS certified Bi-lingual School Counselor. August 2023 Update: Joined the Office of Student Pathways as a Pathways Advising Coach. Bilingual school counselor for NYC public schools working with students and families in a 9-12 setting. Formerly and always, a proud member of the College and Career Planning Team with the Office of Postsecondary Readiness (OPSR); within the central office of the NYC Department of Education. OPSR leads the effort to ensure all New York City students graduate prepared for postsecondary success. In her role, as an Administrative Education Officer, Norma worked with cross-functional teams to address matriculation milestones, school culture, and establish partnerships to support students and families in the postsecondary planning process. Norma was also a Clinical Associate Professor at St. John\'s University for the School of Education providing supervision and guidance to graduate students on during their school counseling practicum and internship experience. And is well currently an Adjunct professor at NYU Steinhardt. Norma graduated in 2003 from New York University (NYU) earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, she began her career at the NYU Child Study Center; a comprehensive outpatient facility for children, adolescents as an Intake Coordinator and Research Assistant. She has also done extensive work with families in a variety of settings including working with Young Adult Institute/National Institute for People with Disabilities, Girls and Boy\'s Town in collaboration with the Department of Juvenile Justice, translating for Administration for Children Services, and other notable clinical settings. Norma holds a Master of Science in Education. Norma started working with the NYC DOE in 2011 where she provided individual, group, and college counseling. 20••••16, Norma was the College and Career counselor at Hillcrest High School where she provided students with guidance and assistance in the areas of career exploration, college planning, and helping students hands on with the application and financial aid process. Her students have earned millions in college scholarships and grants.
