About Nora Lessersohn

I am a historian, educator, writer, speaker, and advisor. As a scholar of the US and the Middle East, I am currently writing a book about one of the first Middle Eastern American citizens titled \"The Sultan of New York.\" I have particular expertise in U.S. and Armenian histories of culture and politics, and have also published articles on the memoir of my great grandfather, a survivor of the Armenian genocide. I have taught at universities including Columbia University and Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, and have held fellowships at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) and the National Museum of American History (NMAH). I have previous work experience in fundraising for major institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Harvard Divinity School. ​For nearly a decade, I have worked in college admissions consulting and student mentoring, working with students who have gone on to attend some of the best schools in the country including Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, and Georgetown. I have helped a wide-range of students craft strong admissions essays and develop passion projects on topics ranging from US refugee policies, identity politics and campaign strategy, representations of history in film, family histories, religion, and photography. I love helping students discover what is most important to them.
