ABOUT NORA NYI MYINT
As an enthusiast for peace, international affairs, and gender equality, I practice daily what I have learned as a United World College ISAK Japan alumna and push myself to be a global citizen who can bring about positive change to the communities I encounter. Growing up in Myanmar, I experienced firsthand the harsh realities of dictatorship and its devastating effects on personal freedom and opportunities for growth. The military coup in 2021 only deepened these challenges. Since then, I have been an unwavering advocate for freedom and human rights in Myanmar. I had the privilege of serving as a Senior Program Associate on the Burma team at the International Republican Institute for 2 years and 8 months. I passionately worked on the program management of federal awards from agencies such as the U.S. Agency for International Development, the National Endowment for Democracy, and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Affairs. The areas of focus in my programs included conflict resolution, transitional justice, human rights documentation, and the inclusion of women and youth in the Rule of Law, among many other critical initiatives. Now, I am dedicating my time as the Government Relations and Grassroots Engagement Manager at Campaign for a New Myanmar, where I work to drive policy action with U.S. policymakers, civil society, and the Burmese diaspora in support of nonviolent resistance and long-term peacebuilding efforts. I am passionate about human rights, refugee rights, operations in closed societies and alleviating gender-based violence in conflict affected nations. I hope to nurture my career path in peace-building and conflict resolution. I am open to opportunities regarding program management, stakeholder engagement, conflict mediation, advocacy coordination and similar fields. I dream of a better Myanmar (Burma) where everyone can be safe and live a full life of peace as they so deserve, and I wish to work towards that in my life of service.
