Beirut Governorate, LB

Title: Trans Lebanon: An Ethnography of Artistry, Theatricality, & Performance in Times of Forced Crisis- Two-month visit to Lebanon partnering with multiple queer-trans grassroots organizations, NGOs, and artists, during Pride Month and after. Conducted 10 interviews, 4 in-progress by snowball sampling- Analyze performances of gender & spirituality through rehearsals, plays, musicals, dance & comedy shows, open-mic nights, films, playwriting & art therapy workshops, art galleries, and conferences- Qualitative research under Zoukak Theater pressured by state surveillance. Attempt to answer 1)How do trans or non-trans queer artists of Lebanon access authenticity, safety and belonging in the wake of rising transphobic attacks by the state and neighbors? 2)How has political, social and economic instability in Lebanon impacted theatrical and artistic spaces and the specific stories being told?
