Cambridge, GB

I set, develop and deliver on strategy to ensure that PLOS Biology strengthens its role as a premier, not-for-profit open-access journal that transforms science communication. I lead a team of 8 staff editors across two continents and >220 academic editors all over the world. Together we deliver on this mission, assessing, overseeing the peer-review of and publishing science and commentary that is free for all to read. I provide thought-leadership through e.g. editorials and commissioning ideas. We have covered issues such as antimicrobial resistance, tuberculosis, the need for scientific literacy in our political leadership, climate change, diversity, equity and inclusion in science, research culture, and the importance of Open Science. My role entails managing relationships with external stakeholders and across departments to ensure smooth journal operations; forecasting and managing financial and personnel budgets; and overseeing the recruitment and training of new journal staff by senior members of my team.
