About Noah Haggerty
I’m an environment and science reporter covering wildfire in the American West at The Los Angeles Times. As a feature writer, I aim to explore the complex issues facing our generation that demand smart, creative solutions and teach us to view the world in a new way.I covered the 2025 Palisades fire from the field, reporting on the evacuation challenges, fire fight and mass destruction. I\'ve focused on the recovery in the months since, writing on the environmental contamination, rebuilding efforts and post-fire investigations. Before entering the world of journalism, I conducted research on spacecraft propulsion, fusion energy and plasma — the stuff that makes up lightning and the sun. With a background in physics, I\'ve made science and data pillars of my reporting.
Experience
Wildfire Reporter
Jun 2025 — Present · Los Angeles, CA, US
Wildfires in the American West are growing faster, devouring more land, and destroying more properties than ever. Forest management policies, housing development practices and climate change are all to blame. I cover the crisis through deeply-sourced narrative features, breaking news updates, on the ground disaster reporting and multimedia packages.
