The day I learned that she developed this unhealthy habit due to my advice, it changedthe way I practiced. First, I had to admit that I was wrong. I should have given her sustainable healthytips like adding one healthy habit per month to her daily routine instead of oversimplifying her struggles by telling her to \"just eat less!\"Now I am passionate about enlightening providers and parents to the fact that our messaging to kidsmay be harmful. Our words may lead them to develop unhealthy habits. Do we want thin kids, or do wewant healthy kids? If we want healthy kids, let\'s stop equating weight with health. Let\'s promotepositive health conversations based on sustainable habits in nutrition and movement.As a board-certified pediatrician, operating a private practice in Union City and Bayonne, New Jersey,since 1996, I specialize in helping teens and pre-teens with body image and weight management. Ibelieve that treating diseases like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease is both a physical and mentalchallenge. My private practice, Progressive Pediatrics, is where I get to inspire young people andempower them to make healthy choices. Helping my patients work on their mindset and habits is myway of making a difference in the world. My passion is advocating for and empowering teens and pre-teens to help them love their bodies and take control of their health journey.Additionally, I teach professionals and parents who encounter children in this age group to use the rightwords to communicate positive messages about health instead of focusing on weight.
