ABOUT NOF AFGHANI
I\'m a civil engineer specialized in water governance and integrated water resources management. My educational background includes a master\'s degree in Integrated Water Resources Management from TH Köln and a Bachelor of civil engineering from the University of Jordan. I\'ve been fortunate to work with leading institutions in the field, gaining extensive experience in water management and international development. Currently, I\'m a researcher at Fraunhofer Institute (ISI), focusing on the governance of sectoral transitions, sustainability transitions, and transformative technologies, with a particular emphasis on water management. My journey in water governance and international development started as a WASH Project Manager at ACTED International NGO in Amman, Jordan. I defined intervention needs at the community level, remotely supervised WASH/Shelter projects, and supported fundraising initiatives. My role involved internal and external reporting, network/partnering with UN bodies and districts, and measuring project progress and impact. I\'ve also contributed as an external water consultant at Eawag, where I synthesised evidence from cities deploying on-site reuse systems and compiled high-quality case descriptions to foster broader result dissemination and stakeholder interaction. Previously, I worked as research assistant at Forschungsinstitut für Wasser- und Abfallwirtschaft at RWTH Aachen, supporting projects related to water, sanitation, environment, SDGs, and climate change adaptation and mitigation. My tasks included criteria-based analysis of GHG calculation tools, preparing guidelines for GHG calculation in the water and sanitation sector, and developing a catalog of possible GHG mitigation measures in the water sector. I did my master\'s thesis at KWR Water Research Institute, focusing on the circular water economy within the Horticulture sector in Westland, Netherlands. My research aimed to identify institutional enablers and barriers to upscale circular water technologies. I\'m committed to contributing to sustainable water management, climate adaptation, decarbonisation, and international cooperation.
