Over the course of the past five years, I\'ve taught 6th Grade Social Studies, 8th Grade Writing, and 7th Grade ELA. For each class, I either created lessons from scratch or heavily edited existing curriculum to match the rigorous expectations of the school and state exams. Each year, I led a homeroom where I focused on building a strong and supportive community among the students. As a teacher, I emphasize paying attention to current events and promote inclusive thinking through the lens of diversity and equity.I taught 6th Grade Social Studies for a total of four years, 8th Grade Writing for two years, and 7th Grade ELA for the 20••••22 school year. We are currently using the Reading Reconsidered ELA curriculum in our 7th Grade ELA classrooms. In addition to my teaching duties, I began and continue to lead an after school club called Student Artists League, which meets once each week. I was also a co-coordinator for the My Brother\'s Keeper program at our school for four years (20••••21). Currently, I am one of two Diversity Advocates on our campus; our goal is to create initiatives and events which promote diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the school.In 2021, I proudly received the Excellence in Teaching Diversity Award from the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, an honor received by one Ohio teacher each year.
