About Noah Chicoine
As a PhD candidate in Industrial Engineering, I’ve spent the past several years working to improve the reliability and resilience of pharmaceutical supply chains, both in academic research and industry practice. My doctoral research work at Northeastern University has centered on applying operations research, data science, and mathematical modeling to urgent drug shortage management challenges. I’ve developed novel models for inventory management during drug shortages, designed and conducted human-subjects studies on how people respond to uncertain lead time information, and analyzed real-world hospital data to quantify the impact of unreliable drug availability. My work has been published in journals and conferences such as PLOS ONE, CHI, and AAMAS, with additional studies in review. Complementing my academic research, I’ve gained hands-on experience across the pharmaceutical pipeline—from early-stage clinical modeling at Takeda and PK/PD simulations at Pfizer, to manufacturing process control at Vertex, and pharmacy software development at OrbitalRX. These roles have sharpened my skills in machine learning, simulation, and software development, and deepened my understanding of how data science and engineering tools can directly improve patient outcomes. Looking ahead, I aim to continue enhancing the reliability of health care delivery by leveraging my expertise in operations research and data science within the pharmaceutical or tech industries—especially in roles that sit at the intersection of innovation, analytics, and impact.
