About Nick Walker

I oversee the planning, development, and management of the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation\'s (MCPR) extensive park system, including nature preserves, greenways, and recreational facilities. MCPR has been CAPRA Accredited since 2009. We manage more than 290 parks, nature preserves, community and regional centers, and greenways spanning close to acres. My role is to ensure that all recreational programs and initiatives align with community needs, while maintaining environmental responsibility and cost-effectiveness. I directly supervise five division directors (Planning & Development, Park Operations, Recreation/Aquatics, Natural Resources, and Business Operations) and a deputy director. Responsible for the creation and management of a budget exceeding $71 million to support park maintenance, staffing, and community programs and close to $500 million Capital Improvement Program through 2030. Guide a team of approximately 500 full-time employees and more than part-time and seasonal staff. Help build staff morale, facilitate gathering community input through various engagement strategies and serve as liaison to the Park and Recreation Commission.
