About Nita Kurmins Gilson

Nita is the co-founder and Executive Director of Programs & Outreach for ProduceGood, a food recovery nonprofit in San Diego. This was born from a grassroots gleaning organization, CropSwap, she started in 2009 to address the problem of wasted fruit from trees. From humble beginnings, ProduceGood now works with over 800 growers, farmers and producers to recover hundreds of thousands of pounds each year. Powered by over volunteers, ProduceGood has provided almost 4 million servings of fresh produce to the food insecure, that would otherwise gone to landfill. Nita is also the corporate ambassador, operating as an agent of change in the sustainability movement and representing ProduceGood in organizations with similar missions. She also speaks at numerous hunger and environmental advocacy events, promoting gleaning as a means of reducing waste and hunger.
