About Nita Ahuja

Dr. Ahuja is a national leader in health care delivery within complex academic medical centers. She has successfully led efforts at health system alignment across leading academic health systems including Johns Hopkins and Yale University. She currently leads the School of Medicine and Public Health at University of Wisconsin-Madison, the nations first integrated school of medicine and public health. She is also the Vice Chancellor for Medical Affairs at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Nationally she serves on the board of directors for the Association of American Medical Colleges. Dr Ahuja is a strong advocate of patient centered care with focus on excellence and compassion in academic medical centers. Dr Ahuja has previously served as Surgeon in Chief of Yale New Haven Hospital and Chair of Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr Ahuja is a passionate advocate of multidisciplinary teams delivering compassionate and excellent care to patients. She is nationally known for her expertise in management of sarcomas, gastric cancers, recurrent colorectal cancers. A member of the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Ahuja has over two decades of experience as a surgeon-scientist balancing clinical care with bench research. She has been a leader in the field of translational epigenetics and runs a highly productive laboratory focused on development of novel cancer therapies and detection of early cancers. Research from her laboratory is now driving multiple national clinical trials focused on reversing chemotherapy resistance, harnessing the immune system by using epigenetic drugs and preventing cancer recurrence using epigenetics.Dr. Ahuja is a member of the leading surgical organizations including the American Surgical Association and Southern Surgical. In addition, she is on the editorial board of major scientific journals including Annals of Surgical Oncology, Selected Readings in General Surgery, Journal of Surgical Research and Clinical Epigenetics.
