As a backend engineer at Zalando, I belong to the Warehouse Abilities team which develops backend systems and platform capabilities to modernise the warehouses. Together with the team, we develop services, APIs, events to implement various business processes into the logistics core platform including inventory, inbound/outbound processes, auditing and reporting, maintaining article data, storage recommendations for dangerous goods etc. Part of routine activities also include maintaining and managing synchronisation with events between the old on premise platform and the cloud native stack until all processes are migrated to the cloud completely. My major contribution over this duration also included migrating from self managed Redis cluster in kubernetes to AWS Elasticache Redis resulting in ~20% reduction in costs and driving stability and consistency. While I continue to contribute to adapt to the new international culture in a foreign land, I have proactively initiated technical documentation within the team to promote the company’s core values “Default to transparency” and “Keep it simple Sherlock”.
