ABOUT NISHANT SHAH
Aerospace engineering has been a field that has captivated me since I was 2 years old sitting on my first flight going to South Africa. Several centuries ago, heavier than air travel was considered nearly impossible, yet today thousands of flights filled to the brim with passengers navigate the skies. With that in mind, aerospace engineering sits at the delicate balance point of my interest in problem-solving, my love of math and physics, and my passion for what lays in the skies and beyond. This combination is what led me to study aerospace engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, where I am able to engage in thoughtful, yet challenging conversations every day. Aerospace engineering allows me to be at the forefront of solving problems in a field I am eager to join, and the classes I have taken at Texas have helped me develop that problem-solving mindset even further. In addition to my engineering degree, I have completed a minor in business administration while I continue to work towards a minor in economics. The minor in business administration has enabled me to amplify my interpersonal and leadership skills while also teaching me about effective management, ethics in the workplace, and productive teamwork along with much more. My minor in economics will help with analysis of quantitative data that is even more necessary in the age of big data while also helping provide a big picture overview of business and the economy. Engineering courses often do not focus on these skills, and I believe these minors exponentially strengthen the lessons I will learn as I proceed through my time at the University of Texas. Along with pursuing my academic passions, a key part of my goal in college is to explore several of my personal interests. This has manifested in me joining organizations such as the American Insitute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Design Build Fly, and Longhorn Swim Club.
