About Niral Koradia
I build stuff with data in the cloud (mostly AWS and GCP these days). Been doing this in various forms since around 2012, so I\'ve got a good sense of what makes a business tick – knowing which numbers really matter and how priorities can shift depending on who you\'re talking to. You could say my forte is also digital decluttering – I have a knack for identifying and deleting unwanted code and systems (seriously, over 100+ repos gone in the last decade!). I\'m also pretty good at sniffing out bottlenecks and I tend to stick to what I believe makes sense, without getting too distracted by the latest trends. I like making data flow smoothly, keeping costs in check, and helping data scientists and ML engineers do their magic without getting bogged down in infrastructure. At Quizlet, I\'m all about making the data platform better for everyone, from the engineers on my team to the millions of users hitting the books. Also a big fan of leveraging AI to make my life (and hopefully yours) a little easier. because let\'s be honest, I\'m a lazy engineer and I\'d much rather have the machines do the heavy lifting! Finally, if you\'re looking for someone to conquer LeetCode hard during an interview, that\'s cool, but I\'m more interested in chatting about how we\'d actually tackle the messy, real-world problems together. After all, aren\'t we trying to build things, not just solve puzzles in a vacuum?

As a Staff Engineer in the Data Platform team, I focused on enhancing the experience for data scientists and ML engineers working with Quizlet\'s data warehouse, which supports Quizlet\'s learning platform serving over 60 million monthly users globally, and associated tools (Airflow, DBT, BigQuery, OpenSearch, Dataflow, PlanetScale).Led initiatives to significantly improve the development efficiency of data scientists and ML engineers by streamlining the setup of their development and testing environments and optimizing the DBT development workflow.Led initiatives on significant cost reductions in BigQuery by identifying and eliminating legacy data usage and tables, bringing spending in line with budget.Optimized CI/CD deployment times by streamlining workflows and removing inefficiencies, leading to faster and more reliable releases.Introduced and educated the team on the use of Monte Carlo to elevate data quality standards across the platform.Facilitated alignment across company stakeholders on the definitions of critical metrics used for financial reporting and executive decision-making.Took ownership of designing a robust on-call process with detailed runbooks to ensure platform stability and minimize downtime, while mentoring engineers on effective incident management and resolution strategies.Cultivated a strong culture of CI/CD and thorough code reviews within the data platform team.Continuously explored and integrated the right AI tooling, including Cursor, ChatGPT, GitHub Co-pilot, MCP servers, and Gitpods, across relevant workflows to enhance the efficiency and productivity of the entire Data, ML, and AI organization at Quizlet.
