ABOUT NIPPIN ANAND

Dr. Nippin Anand is the Founder and CEO of Novellus Solutions, a consultancy specialising in human-centred approaches to learning, risk, culture and social decision making. Nippin is a former master mariner with an MSc in Economics and a Ph.D. in Social Sciences and Anthropology. More than this, Nippin brings a Transdisciplinary lens to the challenges of work and organising spanning: the humanities, social psychology, mythology, anthropology, semiotics and philosophy. After experiencing a near collision at sea, Nippin developed a lifelong passion for event investigation, focusing on how failure can be turned into opportunities for learning and change. He has a particular focus on: the psychology of goal setting, motivation, perception and unconscious decisions under pressure. As a former subject matter expert at DNV, Nippin asks challenging questions about the role of ethics, care, helping, moral meaning, emotions and trauma in the discourse of risk and safety. In so doing, he seeks to help the industry to become more relevant to a person-centric understanding as to why people do as they do. He is the author of three book ‘Are We Learning from Accidents?’,\'51 Stories in Culture\' and \'Three Semiotic Walks\'. He is the host of the podcast Embracing Differences, and a frequent writer, well known for making insights accessible and actionable for safety critical industries.Nippin is also a gifted public speaker, his past engagements include:International Maritime Organisation (IMO), LondonNational Safety Council, United StatesAmerican Society of Safety ProfessionalsEnergy Safety CanadaCardiff University UKCranfield University UKManufacturing Safety Alliance CanadaOil Companies Marine Forum UKEUROCONTROLSwiss Air Navigation ServicesSTASCOExxon MobilMarine Safety Forum AberdeenOffice of Nuclear Regulation UKInternational Atomic Energy Agency AustriaBusiness Leaders Health and Safety Forum New ZealandAustralian Institute of Health and SafetyNew Zealand Institute of Health and SafetyGARD NorwayThe Nautical Institute UKUK Chamber of Shipping Dansk OffshoreNational Health Services UKInstitute of Chartered Shipbrokers UAE Gujarat Maritime University IndiaDublin Port Safety Culture workshop 2025International Regulator’s Forum Offshore Safety 2025 European Railways Safety Day, Krakow Poland, 2025Danish Maritime Authority Regulatory Forum, 2025Memorial University, St. John’s Newfoundland, 2025International Maritime Human Factors Symposium, Glasgow 2025
