Erika Ninoyu is Deputy Director at the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. In this role, she supports the coordination and implementation of federal programs and initiatives to advance equity, justice, and opportunity for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities. She also serves as a Designated Federal Officer for the President\'s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.Erika transitioned from a 10-year career of teaching in public schools in Anchorage to serving powerful appropriators in Congress. Previously serving as Congresswoman Barbara Lee\'s Senior Legislative Assistant, Erika advised the Congresswoman in her roles as subcommittee member of LHHSED and Agriculture appropriations, chair of the Democratic Caucus Poverty Task Force, co-chair of the CAPAC Health Task Force, co-chair of the HIV/AIDS Caucus, and co-chair of the Sickle Cell Caucus. A former Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies fellow under Congresswoman Grace Meng during the peak of COVID-19, Erika worked to address anti-Asian hate, language access, education, and civil rights issues. Erika earned her M. Ed. in Education Policy and Management from Harvard, M.A.T. and Bachelor of Music at the University of Alaska. A musician at heart, you will find Erika performing taiko drumming with MHTX throughout the DMV area.

ABOUT ERIKA NINOYU
As a systems-level leader, project manager, educator, and advocate specializing in K-12 public education, performing arts, and U.S-Japan relations, I am driven to enact positive social change through systemic reform.As a musician-educator of ten years, cultural leader, and cross-cultural collaborator, I have worked to build pathways and organizational capacity to empower the next generation of leaders, our youth, through community and the public school system. Fighting for more equitable and inclusive policies, I transitioned to federal policymaking through the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Asian Pacific American Institute of Congressional Studies Fellowship. I served as the Senior Legislative Assistant for the highest-ranking African American woman in Congress and now serve as Acting Deputy Director to the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.As founding president of the Japan Alaska Association, my team and I transformed a community organization into a 501(c)3 non-profit, doubled its budget, and established bi-national programs including partnerships between Japanese American organizations. My cross-national and policy work also extends to my previous role as Chair for the U.S-Japan Council ELP Steering Committee, and former Vice Chair of the Japanese American Citizens League Alaska Chapter. I also regularly perform taiko throughout the DMV area with the MHTX Connection.
