About Nino Foley
Hi there! My name is Nino Foley, first year student at McCombs School of Business with a concentration in healthcare policy. I am a former Captain in the Army with experience overseas on humanitarian missions, and leading teams of 40-100 soldiers. These unique opportunities gave me extensive project management skills and operational planning experience throughout my work in an Afghan Refugee camp after the fall of Kabul, and in deploying to Europe in support of NATO Allies. Being on the ground for these moments in history gave me a deep appreciation for the kind of work that truly matters and has the potential to change people’s lives. Having seen the crisis of mental and physical health in the military and in a refugee camp, I developed a passion for healthcare and its ability to alter the course of well-being for society. I grew up in a hippie town in Oregon which was defined by a huge annual Shakespeare festival, pot farms, and wineries. My parents were both very unique (dad is a traveling Irish storyteller, and mom is a street musician) and they instilled the importance of creating your own adventure in life in me at a young age. My mom taught me how to dance salsa as a teenager, and with my dad’s teachings, I learned my first party trick which was the ability to tell the whole first chapter of the Hobbit (including the voices of Gandalf and all the dwarves). Taking my parents\' creative and adventurous lessons to heart, I went off the beaten path to teach English in rural Thailand as an 18-year old, and later joined the military. In the Army, I learned the importance of leading with empathy and innovation. Facing challenges in the form of emergency readiness deployments and refugee operations, I developed the ability to guide groups under intense situations, and adapt to ambiguity and limited information. I am pursuing MBA internships with healthcare and biotech companies for roles in strategy, product management, and marketing.
