ABOUT NINA CARRINGTON

Do your photographs tell a powerful story? Stories make connections and each photograph tells a story so you have to ensure you’re telling the story you want to tell. If you look awkward, uncertain or lack authenticity in your eyes, that’s your story! I have been in love with stories my whole life – literature, drama, dance – stories taught me how to live and who to be. The incredible thing about photography is that you can capture a whole story in a single frame and that is the goal of every photograph I create. I started my career in property development. I photographed well over a thousand empty rooms. Architectural images can be incredible, but I realised that without a person, I wasn’t emotionally engaged. Today, I create emotive portrait images that connect business owners with their clients. Portrait photography is about connection. It’s NOT just about technically correct images. In business, we know we have to connect with our clients. LinkedIn is all about making those connections – it’s why we’re here right now. Human connection is so important to us that there’s a whole portion of the brain dedicated to facial recognition (the fusiform gyrus). Faces stimulate that part of the brain and create excitement. If you can find the face and expression that resonates with your client, and makes them feel excited, you’ve already made a connection before they’ve read, or you’ve spoken, a single word. You don’t want to be just another person in a photo. You want to connect with your clients in your photographs. Emotion is the key! You cannot capture the emotion you want until you know what it looks like. This is my specialty, I see emotion. Call me… I’ve been watching it carefully since before I had language to express what I was seeing. I work with my clients to discover which elements generate and accentuate the story their clients connect with. The facial expression is the most important aspect. Once you have that light, colour, clothing, hair and makeup, posing, setting and props all work together to emphasise your message. Each element matters. If you would like a complimentary consultation live on Zoom to discuss how to capture the emotion of your brand in your headshots, website images, marketing or advertising campaigns, please DM me.
