About Nina Burleigh

Nina Burleigh is an award-winning journalist and author of seven nonfiction books including, most recently, VIRUS: Vaccinations, the CDC and the Hijacking of America\'s Response to the Pandemic.(Seven Stories, May 2021). Other books include New York Times bestseller The Fatal Gift of Beauty: The Italian Trials of Amanda Knox (Crown 2011); Unholy Business (Collins 2008), about a Bible relic forgery case in Israel, and the intriguing world of Biblical archaeology and relic collectors; Mirage: Napoleon\'s Scientists and the Unveiling of Egypt (Harper Collins, 2007), chronicles the first large-scale interaction between Western civilians and Islam in the modern era; The Stranger and the Statesman,(Morrow, 2003) about the mysterious life of 18th Century scientist James Smithson and his bequest to the nation, and A Very Private Woman: The Life and Unsolved Murder of Mary Meyer,(Bantam 1998), the true story of the unsolved murder of an American aristocrat in 1964, set in the exclusive world of the Cold Warriors in Washington, D.C.As a journalist, she has covered national politics, American, Israeli and Italian law, crime, women’s issues, and pop culture. She has traveled widely in the United States covering American elections and worked extensively in the Middle East and lived and worked in Europe. Her articles have appeared in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Time, People, the Washington Post, New York Magazine, the New York Observer, Elle, Huffingtonpost, Salon, and other publications.She is adjunct faculty at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University, and has been an adjunct professor of journalism at Columbia University, a universitetlektor in the Religion, Philosophy and History Department at the University of Agder, Norway, and appeared in numerous documentaries and radio and television programs.Burleigh was born and educated in the Midwest. She has a Master\'s degree in English Literature from the University of Chicago, a Master’s in Public Affairs Reporting from the University of Illinois at Springfield, and a B.A. in English from MacMurray College. She was writer in residence at the Siena Art Institute in November 2013 and a Dora Maar Fellow in Menerbes, France, in September 2014.
