ABOUT NINA CHAFEE
I am a mathematician at heart! I am currently finishing my BS in Pure Math at Haverford College and heading into a gap year to apply to pure math PhD programs. My senior thesis in topology,\"Constructing Large 1-systems,\" capped off two summers of undergraduate research: fundamental groups of 4-manifolds at Georgia Tech\'s REU (2024), and optimal control and inverse problems at Emory\'s Data Meets Model REU (2025). I\'ve also volunteered in the NeuroGOAL lab at the University of Minnesota, where I got a taste of how math shows up in neuroscience.I am also passionate about making math accessible. I\'ve worked as a peer tutor, teaching assistant, and grader (most often in Linear Algebra and Analysis), and spent several summers teaching sailing to kids. In addition, I recently presented at the Philadelphia chapter of Math For All 2025, a conference fostering inclusivity in mathematics through talks on both research and education.I\'m proficient in Python and LaTeX, with working knowledge of MATLAB and Java. Outside of math, I fence on Haverford\'s varsity team, love live music, and get outside whenever I can!
