ABOUT NIMA FAYAZMANESH
Dr. Fayazmanesh is an integrative medicine fellowship-trained, board-certified psychiatrist with expertise in mindfulness-based interventions and hatha yoga for psychiatric conditions, psychedelic-assisted therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, herbs and supplements for mental health conditions, biofeedback, and evidence-based medicine, teaching, and research. He practices in the Long Beach VA’s Combat PTSD Program and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UC Riverside. As a Network-wide Education Faculty for the VA\'s Office of Patient Centered Care & Cultural Transformation, he teaches courses for VA staff on Whole Health, the VA’s transformational approach to healthcare. He has completed the California Institute for Integral Studies Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies & Research Program, the Mount Sinai MDMA-Assisted Therapy for PTSD Education Program, and the PRATI Foundational KAP Program. An experienced facilitator of Mindfulness-Based Interventions for psychiatric conditions, Dr. Fayazmanesh is a Brown University Mindfulness Center Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher, a Mindful Self-Compassion Trained Teacher, an iRest Level 2 Teacher, and a Certified Sivananda Yoga Teacher. At the Long Beach VA, he has developed a mindfulness-based intervention group program which includes MBSR, MSC, iRest, and Lovingkindness meditation groups for Veterans with mental health conditions. He co-facilitates a Mind-Body Whole Health group in the Combat PTSD Program and has published research on yoga as a treatment for major depression. He supervises psychiatry residents and has developed a mindfulness curriculum for the UC Riverside psychiatry residents. Before joining the VA, Dr. Fayazmanesh was Chief Resident in Psychiatry at California Pacific Medical Center, where he served on the Graduate Medical Education and Curriculum Review Committees and developed expertise in psychodynamic psychotherapy for individuals and groups. Before medical school, Dr. Fayazmanesh was a Fulbright Fellow, a UC Regents Scholar, a National Merit Scholar, and a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellow. He attended the UCSF School of Medicine where he received Honors in psychiatry and internal medicine and completed his M.D. and an M.S. in Biophysics. He is a talented musician and has performed in a physicians’ guitar ensemble and as co-principal clarinetist of the UC Irvine Wind Ensemble. He takes an integrative approach to his practice that incorporates psychodynamic psychotherapy, mindfulness, and Whole Health.
