About Niloofar Gopal Pour
I write about the lessons I pick up along the way: growing as a scientist, an immigrant, and a person trying to build a beautiful life. I’m a Process Development Engineer II at Merck, working on downstream development for the HPV vaccine. My background includes protein expression and purification in bacterial, yeast, and insect systems, along with using analytical tools to understand protein quality and behavior.I enjoy projects that require patience, creativity, and problem-solving. I’ve led workflows, improved processes, and mentored newer scientists as they grow into their roles.Outside the lab, I write about what I learn, dance for fun and bake when I need to reset.My current most interesting hobby is to explore different trails of the Shenandoah valley, to enjoy its sunsets, amazing night sky and beautiful waterfalls. At the core, I focus on two things:→ Building better biologics through thoughtful process development→ Sharing what I learn so others can grow with more clarity and confidence

Performed downstream protein purification at lab scales.* Designed and executed experiments, troubleshooting purification processes such as homogenization, microfiltration/ultrafiltration, chromatography (IEX), disassembly and reassembly of VLPs (Pllicon 3, PIF, SF and hallow fibers).* Operated and maintained AKTA/Unicorn chromatography systems, Pendotech, DLS, SoloVPE and UPLC systems, ran experiments and analyzed results to support process development.* Authored SOPs, protocols, and technical documents, while improving procedures for equipment and process operations.* Led troubleshooting and technical investigations to resolve issues and implement process improvements.
