ABOUT NIKKI WENTLING

After 11 years of working as a full-time reporter – covering everything from the military, technology and U.S. politics, to housing, health care, and crime – I transitioned in January 2025 to an editing role with Military Times. Just prior, I wrote for Military Times through a fellowship created by Military Veterans in Journalism to explore disinformation and anti-democratic extremism targeted toward service members and veterans. Part of the output from that role was a best practices guide on reporting about disinformation and extremism in those communities. In previous roles, I’ve conducted hundreds of interviews with CEOs, C-suite executives, members of Congress, and Cabinet members, and I\'ve written and published thousands of stories with news from leading technology companies, Capitol Hill, the Pentagon, the White House, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. I’ve had my reporting featured on CNN and MSNBC, explained my work on C-SPAN, NPR stations, and various panels, and won multiple awards from the Arkansas Press Association, National Coalition of Homeless Veterans, and others. During my free time, you can find me reading mystery novels, doting on my dog and two cats, hiking with my husband in the Rockies, paddleboarding at my local lake, working on my pickleball game, or planning my next trip. Skills: news writing, investigative reporting, fact-checking, solutions journalism, open-source intelligence, editing, AP style, breaking news, storytelling, digital media, newsletters, photography, public speaking, Adobe Creative Suite, content planning, community engagement, search engine optimization (SEO), Google trends, Microsoft Excel, news design, social media.
