ABOUT NIKKI WALSH

Nikki is the City Law School\'s Associate Dean for Partnerships & Development. She directs the Law School\'s Death Penalty Clinic- which undertakes casework and research for leading UK charities Amicus & Reprieve- and teaches criminal courtroom advocacy and professional ethics to student barristers on the Bar course. Prior to joining City, Nikki qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales, practising criminal law in both UK and international settings. Domestically, she defended at the Chambers & Partners top three law firm, Taylor Nichol, handling a serious crime caseload including conspiracy to murder, manslaughter, drug trafficking and sexual offences, and specialised in trials involving juveniles. At an international level, she was appointed as a legal assistant to defence teams at two war crimes trials- the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia (ICTY, Limaj) in the Hague and Special Court based in Sierra Leone (SC-SL, RUF)- on indictments of torture, crimes against humanity, and use of child soldiers. Nikki is experienced in fragile settings and has undertaken trial observations in Cambodia and Turkey, and led on successful rule of law partnerships, including-consulting for death row defence lawyers in USA and Pakistan- lecturing for UNDP Somalia at University of Hargeisa-creating an access to justice programme to assist unlawfully detained prisoners in Malawi- founding an award-winning UK- South African skills programme for the next generation of human rights lawyers, funded by BERTHA Foundation.(see Awards-Vice-Chancellor\'s Award for International Collaboration of the Year 2016 - President\'s Award for International Collaboration of the Year 2017 Publications- Criminal Justice & Immigration Act 2008: A Guide to the New Law, A.
