ABOUT NIKKI C.

I am a passionate public health professional experienced in worksite wellness, health promotion and disease prevention, health education and workgroup/committee leadership. Through my 5 years as a Certified Personal Trainer at Florida International University and 7+ years as a Senior Health Educator at the Florida Department of Health Tobacco Prevention and Control Program, I gained invaluable experience in worksite policy change (specifically tobacco-free and smoke-free policy change), policy assessment, development and implementation, monitoring/tracking policy change, program evaluation, event planning/coordination, community outreach, and community surveillance. I was the HR Wellness Program Coordinator for Miami-Dade County and oversaw the WellnessWorks program, which served over County employees. Through health education, employee engagement activities, wellness challenges, free health coaching, on-site biometric screenings at various county locations and more, the program aimed to improve the health of all employees and encourage healthier lifestyles. I liked reaching different departments and learning about their health and wellness needs since every employee is different, mentally, physically and spiritually. I developed a passion for maternal and child health epidemiology during my internship at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and I enjoy working with youth, young adults and community members to raise awareness about important public health issues. I love helping others and connecting people to available resources. I am active in the community and experienced in engaging different population groups through my work and volunteering. I am motivated, dedicated and impassioned about how public health can change the world and create a lasting positive impact. I look forward to my journey and continued growth in the public health arena and wish to become a leader that will inspire others.
