ABOUT NIKKI POSNACK
Our research group examines how environmental influences can influence cardiovascular function - with an emphasis on the use of medical device materials with pediatric patient populations. We are funded by the NIH, CTSI-CN, CRI, and the Divisions of Cardiology & Cardiac surgery. My lab actively collaborates across multiple disciplines and departments, including pharmacology, physiology, biomedical engineering, and clinical divisions. Our laboratory investigates multiple indices of cardiac function using models at the cellular (atrial, ventricular, human stem cell cardiomyocytes), organ (isolated hearts, 3D engineered cardiac tissue), and whole animal level. Cardiac parameters range from phenotypic endpoints (e.g, electrical conduction, calcium handling, optical mapping, contractile force, blood pressure, ECG, oxygen consumption) to mechanistic determinants (gene, miRNA and protein expression profiling).
