ABOUT NIKKI C.
I am an Environmental Scientist and Professional Biologist (M.E.Des, P.Biol.) working in the electric utility industry in Alberta, Canada. I have been employed by Alberta’s primary transmission service provider, AltaLink since 2004. As part of my role, I have the privilege of managing AltaLink’s Avian Protection Plan (APP), an initiative I personally championed. An APP is a management system specifically designed to reduce bird mortality on electrical facilities. The program includes numerous risk assessments and standard operating procedures to prevent electrocutions with energized structures (i.e. power poles and substation equipment), reduce collisions with overhead lines, and effectively protect nests from utility operations.In 2013 I had the honor of being named a finalist in the Alberta Emerald Awards, Individual Commitment category. The Alberta Emerald Foundation was founded in 1991 to promote and celebrate outstanding and innovative environmental stewardship by individuals, community groups, business, industry and government in Alberta.
