About Nikhil Kumar
Backend engineer with a thing for systems that don\'t break under pressure.I work at TCS on GeM — India\'s government procurement marketplace. Most of my work is deep in the backend: building Kafka pipelines, tuning OpenSearch queries, designing shared microservice utilities, and making sure things stay fast and fault-tolerant at scale. One of my recent projects brought an API from 800–1200ms down to ~100ms in production. Before that, I was the sole developer at a B2B SaaS startup, shipping two products end-to-end directly with the CTO — full-stack MERN on AWS, Razorpay payments, RBAC, the works.I take DSA seriously too — 800+ problems on LeetCode.Looking to join a product company where the engineering bar is high and the problems are genuinely interesting.Let\'s talk.

I work as a Backend/Full Stack Engineer at TCS on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) platform, one of India\'s largest public procurement systems. My core focus has been on building high-performance backend systems — including a Kafka-driven query microservice that consumes domain events and maintains denormalized read models in OpenSearch, bringing API latencies from 500–800ms down to under 150ms and ultimately ~100ms after further query optimization.I\'ve built shared infrastructure used across the platform: a centralized auto-save and validation utility in core-service consumed by 5 microservices, a polymorphic system-configuration service, and on-demand Redis caching using the cache-aside pattern to reduce load on OpenSearch and DocumentDB. I also developed document and media upload/download functionality using pre-signed URLs with system-configurable MIME type and file size policies. On the reliability side, I\'ve applied Circuit Breaker, Bulkhead, and Retry patterns across 4 microservices, configured idempotent Kafka producers, and implemented dead-letter and consumer retry strategies. I also overrode MongoTemplate centrally to enforce soft-delete filtering at the data-access layer across all read paths.Skills: Java · Spring Boot · Apache Kafka · OpenSearch · AWS DocumentDB · Redis · React.js · Microservices · Event-Driven Architecture
