ABOUT NIKHIL KUMAR

I am a graduate student in the PhD in Public Policy (Economics track) program at Harvard Kennedy School, starting Fall 2022. I recently worked as a Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow with Reema Hanna, Benjamin Olken and Gabriel Kriendler at Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD), Harvard Kennedy School. I worked on an impact evaluation of a conditional cash transfer program and a study of optimal transport networks, both in Indonesia.I am primarily interested in the studying the process of social, political and economic development using empirical methods. I am curious about how rural roads and internet connectivity impact market access and in turn affect local economic development. I also want to study how students make college application decisions under uncertainty in developing countries. Another avenue I am interested in exploring is how local investments, internal migration and inter-regional fiscal transfers within countries impact regional disparities in economic development.
