The Office of National Toxicology Program Scientific Operations and Coordination (ONSOC) provides scientific leadership and direction for the planning, implementation, management, and coordination of research activities of the National Toxicology Program (NTP). The NTP is a partnership between the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences of the National Institutes of Health (NIEHS / NIH), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (NIOSH / CDC), and the National Center for Toxicological Research of the Food and Drug Administration (NCTR / FDA). The NTP is headquartered administratively within the Division of Translational Toxicology (DTT) at the NIEHS. Founded in 1978, NTP plays a critical role in generating, interpreting, and sharing toxicological information about potentially hazardous substances in our environment.

ABOUT NIGEL WALKER

Dr. Nigel Walker is a senior toxicologist in the Division of Translational Toxicology at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)/NIH where he leads the federal interagency Office of National Toxicology Program (NTP) Scientific Operations and Coordination (ONSOC). In that role he provides scientific leadership and direction for the planning, implementation, management, and coordination of research activities of the National Toxicology Program (NTP). He has over 25 years experience working on National Toxicology Program (NTP) research efforts, environmental toxicology, quantitative dose response modeling and risk analysis, with particular emphasis on persistent organic pollutants and nanoscale materials. He has over 200 peer–reviewed publications including over 100 NTP Technical Reports that report the evaluation potential toxicity of substances in our environment. He received his B.Sc. in Biochemistry in England from the University of Bath and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Liverpool. Following postdoctoral training in environmental toxicology at the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health in Baltimore MD, he moved to the NIEHS, where he has been since 1995.
