I am Director, Research and Development at Ryan (formerly Catax) and sit on their Senior Leadership Team.I started my accountancy training in 1992, straight from the University of Central Lancashire where I obtained a 2:1 in Accountancy and won the Coopers & Lybrand prize for best paper in Business Finance. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994, I moved into tax in 1996 and have progressed through hard work and determination, and a passion to help clients. I qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 1998.I really enjoy hearing clients speak about their businesses, what they make, how they make them, the problems they face and it is very satisfying when clients appreciate my help in maximising their tax reliefs and minimising their tax.Research & Development tax relief is an area of specialism that I have a strong passion for. So many companies do not realise they could make a claim. I have presented on this topic, have had articles published in the national tax press and have contributed to discussions with HMRC at a national level on their guidance.
