ABOUT NIGEL GARNHAM
I am a senior technology advisory and infrastructure engineering professional with a career spanning IT, telecommunications and operational technology (OT), working at the intersection of deep engineering expertise, technology consulting practice, strategic sourcing leadership and executive decision‑making. My background combines formal engineering training, doctoral‑level research and decades of hands‑on delivery. This foundation has shaped my ability to translate complex technical and commercial challenges into practical, board‑level advice, particularly where IT/OT convergence, resilience, security, regulation and value for money are critical.I have extensive experience leading and advising on major transformation and delivery programmes, covering infrastructure modernisation, data centre to cloud migration, WAN/LAN and SD‑WAN evolution, next‑generation communications and mission‑critical platforms. My work has included defining technical strategy, shaping commercial and technical propositions, leading multi‑vendor procurements and governing supplier delivery, while advising and influencing stakeholders up to CxO level across public and private sector organisations—often in highly regulated or nationally significant environments. My specialist expertise spans infrastructure transformation across IT and OT environments, including industrial connectivity, IoT, SCADA and analytics; network and communications security; fixed, cellular, and satellite communications; video, contact centre and cloud collaboration platforms and business continuity and resilience for critical national infrastructure. I bring a strong understanding of regulatory, assurance and commercial risk, enabling technology decisions that are deliverable, compliant and sustainable.I am a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET), and a member of the IET’s Academic Accreditation Panel. I also serve as Associate Editor (IoT and Cognitive Networks) for the IET Smart Cities journal, reflecting my continued engagement with emerging technologies and applied research.
