Advancing a rare earths processing project relating to chemical processing of recycled magnet materials, including project management, process design, budgeting and reporting requirements in relation to grant funding for the SCREAM (Secure Critical Rare Earth Magnets for the UK) Project. The Secure Critical Rare Earth Magnets (SCREAM) project is a £3.4 million UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)-funded project which aims to establish a domestic source of rare earth magnets. As the UK has no sources of primary rare earths, the project will look to establish a steady stream of recycled rare earth magnets to ensure the security of these materials in the UK industry. Reporting directly to the CEO of Mkango Resources. Responsibilities- Provide project management and technical leadership for rare earths/mineral processing projects and lead the development of separation, purification, and recycling technologies- Manage a team of technical staff, consisting of Process Chemists, Chemical Engineers, Consultants and acting as an industrial supervisor for several PhD candidates- Responsible for the recruitment of new technical staff and general operations personnel- Manage the development of process technologies from bench scale, pilot scale to potential commercial scale- Overall responsibility for chemical process operations for both the Laboratory and Pilot plant ensuring all safety standards are maintained and adhered to daily- Management of process engineering documentation, including mass, heat and energy balances, process flow diagrams, P & IDs, and hydraulic designs of pilot scale plants- Provided HSE leadership, chairing HAZOP studies, RAs, LOPA studies etc- Manage and lead the commissioning and qualification of new processes and process equipment to set deadlines- Conduct and be responsible for internal and external risk assessments on equipment and processes.
