About Nicolo Primerano

I am a Systems Engineer with Booz Allen Hamilton, currently providing Systems Engineering and Digital Engineering expertise to the F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO). I graduated from the University of Maryland (UMD) in May 2020 with a bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering and currently pursuing a masters in Systems Engineering at the University of Virginia. Being able to work with the F-35 JPO, I have the perfect opportunity to apply my undergraduate education on real-world problems, while improving my skills in my professional passion of Systems Engineering and Digital Engineering.During my senior year at UMD, I held the role of project team lead for a unique aerospace senior design capstone, AIAA\'s Design, Build, Fly competition. It gave me insight on what it is like to hold a more realistic management position in a time-oriented project. In addition, although I was more of a project manager in this role, I was informally introduced to several systems engineering concepts. My role in this project piqued my interest in the SE discipline, as it allows me to stay technical and take deep-dives, but also lets me focus on big picture ideas. Dealing with the short timelines and quick changes in project scope, considering ways be as time and money efficient as possible, and always keeping my team motivated has solidified my interest in always pursuing a future leadership position in an engineering firm. While my position at Lockheed Martin did not directly cover my leadership interests, I was still able to apply my education in aircraft stability, control, and performance to high-speed fighter aircraft. This position has also provided me the opportunity to substantially build on my expertise in teamwork, time management, technical writing, and overall communication with both technical and non-technical project stakeholders. With my current systems engineering role at Booz Allen Hamilton, I have been able to put my QUEST experiences to use, while expanding my knowledge on and finding a passion for systems engineering and, more specifically, Model Based Systems Engineering concepts. This position has proven to offer me fantastic opportunities to enhance my professional development and network, as well as my technical skills. I am always open to talk more.
