ABOUT NICOLE LAMING

Whenever a candidate asks me why I do what I do, I always smile at how serendipitous my career feels to date.I started out thinking I wanted to be a solicitor. I had huge career ambitions. I wanted to be part of my families first generation to go to university and make my family proud. A lot of my school reports mentioned my analytical mind, inquisitive nature and fascination in problem solving. That in my mind, pretty much lended itself to a career in law. It was at university that it all shifted and I found it terrifying that I wasn’t enjoying university and started to rethink everything I had planned out. I checked in with myself and chose to run with my true passion - Psychology and leave law behind (Narrator: or so she thought…). That’s when during an occupational module, I was opened up to the world of HR. The new career ambition was born. Out of university I ‘fell’ in to a role in a law firm whilst actively trying to carve out my career in HR. It just so happened to be that this career would unfold within the legal industry. That’s why I speak fondly of it being serendipitous. I have a huge passion for people and development and absolutely pride myself in how I have embraced the organisational context of the legal industry. Maybe 14 year old Nicole knew where she’d end up after-all!
