Modeling Exposure Through Earth Observation Routines (METEOR) METEOR is a three year project funded by the UK Space Agency to develop innovative application of Earth Observation (EO) technologies to improve understanding of exposure with a specific focus on the countries of Nepal and Tanzania. The METEOR project consortium is a composed of eight organizations crossing four continents and with expertise spanning from humanitarian aid, to remote sensing, from disaster risk reduction to policy advice. Within this project, the GEM Foundation is responsible for derivation of multi-hazard vulnerability models, uncertainty quantification, and knowledge-sharing. Global Risk Model In 2018, the GEM Foundation released global hazard and risk maps for earthquake ground shaking This was the outcome of a 20••••18 work program that aimed to collaboratively develop a complete set of earthquake data and models, and to deliver a comprehensive global assessment of earthquake risk. Since its initial publication, GEM staff continue to verify, validate, and update the models for future releases. In particular, I\'ve been involved with an update of the Africa Risk Model and the verification of the Caribbean model by modeling past earthquake scenarios. Additionally, I\'ve publicly released code to spatially disaggregate exposure using external datasets (e.g, WorldPop): https://github.com/GEMScienceTools/spatial-disaggregation EU Member States - Regional Risk and Case Studies This project looked at the baseline (2020) and future (2050) risk of residential, commercial, industrial, education, and healthcare buildings due to earthquakes. Additionally, two separate risk mitigation case studies were investigated to inform a cost-benefit analysis performed by the World Bank that considered reduction of the following loss categories: direct economic loss due to building damage, fatalities, injuries, and business interruption.
