WORK HISTORY
Microfluidic Engineer @Shennon Biotechnologies
San Francisco, CA, US
I am fabricating a microfluidic device that can generate droplets used to sort and profile immune cells. I am researching how to do single cell sequencing on this device. Additionally, I am transitioning the fabrication process from PDMS to hard plastics by using CNC machining and hot embossing. Finally, I am also learning cell culture and operational managment skills.
EDUCATION
The University of Tokyo
Master of Science - MS
University of California, Berkeley
Bachelor's degree, Bioengineering
ABOUT NICOLE SU-WEN LEE
I am a microfluidics engineer at Shennon Biotechnologies, designing microfluidic devices for droplet generation and manipulation for functional immune cell profiling and receptor discover. These devices allow us to quickly profile millions of immune cells at the single cell level at the same time, so that more targeted and effective immunotherapies can be discovered. As a Master\'s student at the University of Tokyo in Japan, I researched self oscillating gels (SOGs) at the Yoshida-Akimoto Lab. I fabricated anisotropically oscillating SOGs by adding a spatially patterned acrylic-acid based interpenetrating polymer network. In 2023 I graduated with a Master\'s in Materials Engineering and received the Outstanding Master\'s Thesis award for my work. At UC Berkeley I graduated with with a Bachelors in Bioengineering, concentrating in Cell and Tissue Engineering. I worked in Prof. Healy\'s Tissue Engineering Lab, where I work with tissue-on-a-chip, fabricate silicon wafers, and culture cardiac cells. I also worked in Prof. Williams\'s Integrative Biology lab with my favorite animal, the microscopic Tardigrade, to find the sources of their cold tolerance. Additionally, I have experience with 3D printing, 3D modeling, and 3D bioprinting.Outside of this, I spent time performing with the Cal Band, and having various leadership roles in the BioE Honors Society.
