ABOUT NICOLE NAOKO NGUYEN

I am an undergraduate student at Western University, working to obtain an Honours Specialization BSc in Biology and a minor in French Studies. I am currently working on a honours thesis in collaboration with the City of London on urban tree community classification. I successfully completed the Science Internship Program (Science Co-op Program) with a 16-month internship term in the SVOC department at ALS Global, Waterloo. Throughout my education at Western University, I have participated in field courses BIO3230 Field Biology on campus and BIO3220 Experimental Studies in Marine Biology in St. Andrew\'s New Brunswick. I learned field research methods and gained experience in independent research. I also volunteer as an iNaturalist ambassador to assist in events such as the 2026 London City Nature Challenge.On campus, I am an active member in the Western University community and have held leadership roles in activities such as Western Peer Notes, Western Foot Patrol, VP Academics for the Japanese Student Association, and English Conservation Program offered by Western International.I am currently the Japanese Key Language Instructor for the International and Indigenous Languages Elementary program for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. I am also a project leader for the Lenkora Project, an student-led initiative to raise awareness and engagement for AAPI mental health in Canada.Outside of campus, I enjoy being involved in community-based initiatives. I participated in a Community Engaged Learning course with the department of Psychology, working as a Research Student for Mission Services London - Quintin Warner House with a focus on policies handling in-house relapses. I also participated in an Impact Experience over February 2025 reading week where I had the pleasure of working with other students to plan a Community Fun Day for L\'Arche London. I continue to enjoy working with L\'Arche London, such as assisting with Independence Summer Camp and starting the Senbazuru Project.
