About Nicole Gazo

As a LatinX woman born and raised in South Florida, as well as a graduate with a Bachelor\'s degree in Political Science and a concentration in Ecosystem Science and Policy from the University of Miami, I\'ve dedicated my career to environmental activism and advocacy. Most notably, I founded the Climate Leadership Information Project (CLIP) in partnership with The CLEO Institute and Miami-Dade County through a county resilience grant. CLIP is now implemented in over 15 Miami-Dade County public schools, equipping hundreds of students with tools to understand local climate risks and solutions, while building a pipeline of future community resilience leaders. Leading GenCLEO at the University of Miami, I\'ve honed skills in grassroots lobbying, climate advocacy, and local government engagement. My leadership as President of the UM Climate Reality Campaign resulted in a landmark victory: the University of Miami\'s divestment from fossil fuels. Through collaborative efforts, we united over 700 student organizers and 15 university climate groups, leading to significant policy advancements and increased financial transparency. My goal is to leverage these experiences to drive sustainability initiatives within organizations, municipalities, and companies, ensuring diverse perspectives are valued and the voices of youth are amplified in the climate conversation.

1. Field Team Lead

   Florida Student Power Network

   Jul 2024 — Present

   Develop relationships with decision makers at the local/state level and advocate for clean energy legislation, as well as communicate climate and energy issues to legislators across the isle. Act as a co-lead alongside the Regional Climate Justice Organizer for development of climate resilience and sustainability related ordinances, plans and policies. Create, Implement & Oversee all aspects of multiple time-bound, metrics-driven tactics according to specific benchmarks and make adjustments as needed. Build institutional partnerships and organizational relationships across the region to support local and statewide campaigns and priorities. Conduct 1:1s w/ institutional/organizational partners on a bi-weekly basis and present climate policy findings and recommendations. Interview, hire, and train canvassers Collaborate with partners on political and popular education training/events.
