ABOUT NICOLA SMITH

I have been involved in the industry since 2001, starting out on various short-term contracts which fitted around my undergraduate degree, I later moved into the role of Analyst, acting as first-line and second-line support to end users as well as creating requested analytical outputs. Involvement in support and analysis gave me a very strong understanding of the challenges faced in utilising, embeding and educating a workforce about the benefits and applications of GIS. In recent years, I have used this experience to develop a small multi-skilled team; moving me to a strategic management position.Whilst a move into mangement has allowed me greater autonomy, I take great pride in ensuring clear links with the industry are maintained. I am a member of the Royal Geographical Society, working towards Chartered Geographer status. I encourage the team to read GI publications and attend conferences where appropriate; but perhaps most importantly I actively foster an environment within which GI ideas are explored and tested, to push the boundaries of understanding and possibility.Currently holding a position in Technical Management.Specialties: ESRI Arcview 3.x, ArcGIS8, Northgate Blue8 GIS, Northgate Xd & Xi, Performancesoft Views, PocketGIS, Experian Mosaic, GGP Gazetteer Management Software.
