Earned my PhD in Astrophysics from University of Toronto in 2016. Simulated colliding black holes and neutron stars using supercomputers to study gravitational waves.(https://arxiv.org/abs/15•••••86, https://arxiv.org/abs/16•••••62)After realizing academia wasn\'t the place for me, I quickly grew fond of data science and machine learning. Have ~1.5 years of industry experience working at Daisy Intelligence, Quandl and Chisel AI.At Daisy Intelligence, using modern machine learning techniques, I worked on developing code to help retailers optimize their flyer promotions and a code to predict future inventory sales. At Quandl I studied various data sets to look for statistically significant market predictors to help sell the data sets to Wall St. hedge funds.At Chisel AI we worked on automating the extraction of information from pdf documents, mainly for insurance clients. I created algorithms to automatically parse tables, lists, and import key-value pairs contained in such pdf documents, as well as creating a framework that allowed our team to easily create parsing scripts to completely parse families of pdf documents. Strong programming background in Python and in C++. Good knowledge of SQL and databases, experience with SQLAlchemey and MySQL. Good experience with the Python machine learning stack (Numpy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn, XG-Boost) and with building predictive machine learning models. Experience with building deep learning models using Keras and Tensorflow, including for reinforcement learning and image recognition tasks. Ability to learn new programming languages confidently and quickly. Excellent background in mathematics, statistics, Bayesian analysis, data analysis and model testing. Strong experience in data visualization and communicating results to a variety of audiences. Strong knowledge of numerical analysis techniques and high-performance computing. Critical/analytical thinker and creative problem solver.
